New Year Same Shit

Happy 2022 to everyone out there. I’m not big on doing big end of year wrap-ups or hyping up resolutions. I will say I pulled my back at the beginning of November and have just now gotten back to pretty regular programming. This is the longest recovery Ive experienced and, I can’t lie, it scared me a little. Luckily after x-rays and physical therapy, turns out I’m completely fine. They got me on a schedule of stretching and core workouts which if I want to continue painting murals I’m gonna have to stick to, so yeah, there’s a resolution.

The positive aspect of the injury is that I got to spend a lot of time at the house slowing down and working on sketches and canvases for the first time in a long time. I learned to use the same approach I’ve created for letters the past couple of years to create some abstract pieces which recently seem to be evolving into what feels like some kind of futuristic modern architecture. I really don’t know exactly what they’ll become, which is nice. I’ve always had a hard time staying on one subject so it’s nice to feel like my work since the beginning of spring 2020 has been one evolving piece, and its exciting to think that now that the constraints of letters have shed themselves that the basic structure and physics that remain will grow into something new altogether. Anyway hope everyones year is better than the last. Lets all try and stay positive and support one another.

Now that that’s out the way, I can get to the real news. On our xmas tourist vacation to NYC where we narrowly escaped the cold grip of omicron I asked Kathryn Crawford to marry me. She said “are you kidding me?” followed eventually by “YES!”. If you’re not alreadyfamiliar with her, she is a really impressive artist and more driven than me and I couldn’t be more excited than to spend the rest of my life traveling and painting walls with her.

I’m traveling to LA for the first time in a week to see how many omicrons I can collect so more to come soon. Thanks to everyone for the continued support. Peace.

Soundtrack for this week…

G.1.5 t-shirt release

Just got back from another great trip to Chicago with my talented girlfriend Kathryn Crawford where we painted a wall at CH Distillery that my friend Revise curates. I’ll probably write a longer post about it soon but went ahead and posted photos of the final pieces here.

The more pressing matter is that my new shirt is now for sale here in the store. Once again Image 420 here in Asheville did a top shelf job with the screen printing and hunting down the elusive blanks I need in this era of supply chain disorders. The front is a two color print of one of my newest walls and the back features a small one color print of my Carhartt logo.

This design began with the G from a former piece and reduced to as few colors as possible while retaining the letterform, impression of 3D, and balance as a single piece. I painted it here without the use of tape or straight edge mostly as a challenge, but Id be lying if there wasn’t a level of ego and flex involved haha.

Right now this design is limited to 48 pieces but we’ll see how it does. I hope you like it.

A couple exclusives.

Knocked out a couple walls this week, one the morning hurricane Ida was supposed to come through but ended up just a beautiful cool dark morning, and the other yesterday. Im gonna keep these for the website and continue experimenting with exclusivity of my content.

My girlfriend and I just finished season 2 of the Vice series The Devil You Know about Sherry Shriner and her followers and the deaths involved. By the end of it I was ready to unplug from social media for another few days.

I’m about to head to the Adirondacks to hike with my good friend Ricky Tale, a talented photographer and professional good dude, for 10 days but I have some things in the works including new merchandise when I return.

Soundtrack for this week…

Mach-Hommy - Pray For Haiti

Isiaha Rashad - The House is Burning

Westside Gunn - Hitler Wears Hermes 8
